FRESCO
‘Buon fresco’ describes painting on lime plaster before it has completely hardened. Pure pigments become sealed in a microscopic net of lime crystals, preserving a vivid colour spectrum on a matt surface that is colour fast and withstands water. Lime also captures carbon, absorbs humidity and allows a building to breathe. This technique can be used to cover large areas of wall one shade or make intensely observed paintings. Detail can be added with egg tempera or overlaid with stucco.
The following images are predominantly of fresco panels. Though originally conceived as in situ wall paintings, Cara also paints panels for exhibition, sale and commission. These rang in size from 30cm to 3m. This studio work compliments her on site commissions. For more information on available paintings or commissions please use the contact form.
